The Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant is a Government of Alberta program that reimburses employers 50% of eligible third-party training costs, up to $5,000 per employee per fiscal year — up to $100,000 per employer. If you hire and train an unemployed Albertan, coverage rises to 75%, up to $10,000.
It is employer-driven: your company applies through the CAPG Portal before training starts, sends your people to training, and gets reimbursed after completion. Private-sector businesses, non-profits, First Nations and Metis Settlements with employees are eligible. Funding is first-come, first-served each fiscal year.
What training qualifies for the CAPG?
The grant funds instructor-led training in three categories: Digital & Technological skills, Business Process & Operations Management, and Technical skills. Training must be job-relevant, delivered by an independent third-party provider, and completed within 52 weeks. Live online training counts as delivered in Alberta.
